The Merriest of Merry Christmases

We have been blessed with a very happy daughter. We could add a disclaimer, say she'll probably get us back during her teen years, etc., but for now, we're just going to count our blessings and  bask in the smiles and giggles that greet us daily. She's ear-infection-free (finally), and just when we thought she couldn't get any happier...Christmas came. To our delight, she is as enamored with the season as her mom is and the joy of watching her excitement and cheer made this Christmas our merriest yet. The many pictures to follow may provide a nice mental break from your resolution writing (unless of course one of your resolutions was to stop procrastinating...in which case, you should probably check them out when you're all finished).

We kicked off the weekend before Christmas with a visit from The Bowers Family (Dan and Jill, good friends from Tech) and had our first chance to meet sweet Lily, destined to be a close gal pal of Al...
We've designated Allie as our official Eicholtz Family Greeter.

Lily, it's not too late to put one of these on your Christmas list, you know. Don't worry, I'll put in a good word for you with the big guy.

No hands! No hands! Here I come!

Raise the roof, Christmas friends!

Grandmom and Grandpa are here! Let the Christmas festivities begin! But first a game of catch...

Santa called in the reinforcements. Something tells us this won't be the last time that Daddy is hard at work Christmas Eve.

Frosty! Look at you go!

'Doodle-doodle, Grammy!' (Translation: 'Jingle-jingle, Grammy!')
Our best Christmas gift yet.
What do you mean this isn't a candy cane?

The first of many tea parties with Daddy.

Merry Christmas good buddy.

She's got the whole 'wonder of the season' thing down.

Merry Christmas, Grandpa! Thanks for getting up to keep us company so early in the morning.

Merry Christmas, Grandmom! Look, the tree's still there!

Daddy got up really early too so I could see my new kitchen digs. Alright, guys, breakfast's on me!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!! I love you too, dolly!

We love our Al, but this relaxed Christmas crew picture was taken while someone was settled down for her morning Christmas nap.

I'm back! And ready to ride!

I needed a passenger for the HOV lanes in the neighborhood.

Abs: Well this is cozy. You guy are welcome on my couch anytime.

Love my pup.

...a lot.

Catching up with my ladies. Merry Christmas Memom, Aunt Sue, Lori and Mumsy!

It's Daddy's cousins, Jason and Daniel! I knew you guy were real!

Hey Pop and Mumsy, let's take a picture! Right here in front of the Christmas tree, that's it, smile for the...hey, nice earring.
Our good friends the Buehlers (Celeste /'Neighbor' and Shawn) received a precious early Christmas gift on December 21st. Welcome to the world, Sarah Elizabeth Buehler! We love you already.
Christmas blessings.
We topped off our Christmas celebrations with a visit from Allie's cousins Tim and Alice and Aunt Brenda and Uncle Jonathan. She showed them her new kitchen-within-a-kitchen set-up and we dined on a Christmas pizza. It's been a very good Christmas.
You sure you don't want me to whip up a souffle?

Christmas cousins.

And God Bless Us...Everyone.

"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Merry Christmas to You from the Eicholtz Family

It's finally happened. We've found someone who gets even more of a kick out of Christmas (and herself) than I do. Allison Kathleen Eicholtz joined us on February 12th, 2011 weighing in at 8 lbs, 6 oz, and 19.5 inches long. The past 10 months have flown by, and now she’s a walking (we have officially 5 steps as of this letter…she’ll be driving by Christmas), babbling, clapping, kiss-blowing, 22 solid pounds of joy incarnate. Of course every now and then (like when she has to ride in her carseat or take a nap when clearly there is fun to be had with her eyes open) her joy gives way to, we’ll call it ‘spunk.’ But overall Allie loves…well…just about everything. To our delight, Christmas happens to be top on her list of favorites. Each morning, after we've waved at all of the animals on her nursery wall, we do what we've come to call our 'Christmas Tour.' We go downstairs, she sees the Christmas tree and she smiles, babbles, waves and claps. Next, we visit the nativity set where she smiles, babbles, waves and claps at Baby Jesus. Then, the nutcrackers...more smiles, babbles, waves and claps. Then onto Santa Claus and the Advent Calendar where, you guessed it, she smiles, waves and claps.
Needless to say, life is a bit different at the Eicholtz house these days, and I'm not talking about the fact that Chris finally gave in to peer pressure and joined Facebook. Some things have, however, remained the same. Chris is still working from home for Ernst & Young in IT. His office attire remains…‘casual,’ but his wake-up time is definitely earlier than the one he enjoyed in 2010 since he’s now Allie’s ride to ‘school.’ Having him at home and only 15 minutes away from daycare has been a huge convenience for times when, oh, I don’t know, a pair of parents who will remain nameless send their daughter in to daycare with 3 nipple-less bottles for the day. He’s made more than one ‘oops’ return-trip. When he's not playing taxi to daycare, Chris remains dedicated to his CrossFit training and can be found at the gym or in competitions most days flipping tires, running through fire, flinging weights above his head, and completing ridiculous amounts of pull-ups in one setting. He loves it...more power to him.
We are very happy with Allie’s daycare setting. She loves going there and has a friend with whom she terrorizes the ‘infant 1’ room (they’re busting the pair of them out to room 2 at the beginning of next year). She loves her teachers and gets a kiss and an ‘I love you’ when she leaves each day. We have peace of mind that she is in good hands which is a huge blessing.
I am in my 6th year at Heritage High School as a school counselor. This year has definitely been an adjustment without having the cushion of coming in early and staying late to get caught up with everything else when during-the-day-craziness overtakes my caseload (and it has definitely already been an ‘eventful’ fall and winter with my kids at school). But, I still like my job and gain strength from the interaction with the students, and I am reaching a better balance, knowing that things just won’t be wrapped up as nicely at the end of each day as I would like. The trade-off for that, of course, is that waiting for me ready to be picked up is our not-so-little bundle of sunshine and somehow I don’t worry about what’s on my work-plate until the next day begins. I'm back to running, and enjoy my trips both with and without my running partner in her stroller. Double-digit mile runs seem like a lifetime away at this point, but Allie's not the only one taking baby steps, and that's OK.
And of course, there’s the other member of the A-Team, our boxer Abby, who turned 5 this year. We are very proud parents of our four-legged girl. She has been a trooper with Allie. She is patient when we can’t get our act together as quickly in the mornings to let her out and she is gentle with her sister, carefully avoiding any 70 lb missteps even in her most excitable state. Though, we are pretty sure we hear her sigh from relief these days when our active Allie is quietly tucked in her crib and she can enjoy some couch time with the two of us.

We have been blessed beyond all deserving this year, and as always, Chris and I count you, our family and friends, as great among these blessings. May the peace of Jesus Christ be with you in this Christmas season and always.

With our love,
 Chris, Suz, Allie & Abs

Christmas Time...Is Here

We are in full-on Christmas mode at the Eicholtz house. The tree is up, the Advent calendars are getting full, and gifts are even wrapped and placed in the 'Abby Safe Zone' as we like to call the top of our three-sided fireplace. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year and, to our delight, our daughter apparently shares this yuletide enthusiasm. Each morning, she leads us in our 'Christmas Rounds,' pointing and greeting each Christmas decoration we see. Allie is especially partial to the Christmas tree and our 'jingle jingle' Advent Calendar (our felt tree with Velcro figures and bells on the pockets), but she also gets pretty darn excited about Baby Jesus and his camels, our 'Friends' the Nutcrackers, Santa, and much much more. Here are some of the smiles from the past two weeks. (Oh, and in unrelated news...we've got a walker! 5 official steps is her max. She'll be driving Santa's sleigh by Christmas.)
Don't worry, Phriend. There's always next season.

Hey - I heard I have You to thank for all of this joy.  (Indeed, Al. Indeed.)

Allie's first pizzelle-making experience at Grammy and Grandpop's.

She busted out of her pack and play pretty quickly when she heard there were cookies to be tasted...

Especially ones as big as her face.

Every now and then she gets a 'shiver' of joy... not the most flattering, but they warm the heart.

It's an Advent playdate with Olivia and Brendan! One look at our girl's belly will tell you she clearly knows her way around a kitchen.
Below are some shots of Allie in her new favorite place to pass the time...within waving and pointing distance of the tree.
'Dat!'

Please...I just need a few moments to myself. I was never here.

So...tell me again how he makes it to all of those houses in one night?

More Christmas pointing...

and Christmas clapping.
You think if I'm real quiet...Christmas will get here earlier?
FORGET IT!!! WHO CAN STAY QUIET WITH ALL THIS EXCITEMENT?!?!

What's the count, Abs?

Abby isn't the only good-looking Abs in the house...check out my six-pack!

Who could hide these abs under a shirt?! They were made for gettin' DOWN!

Places to go, people to see. Later Mama.

Ummm...how do I get down?

Someone's finally settling down for a long winter's nap.
